Throughout the whole trip I ended up not taking too many photos; I really wanted to just be present and experience every moment to the best of my ability so most of my photos are from the day where I wrote the blog, giving me a limited selection. But here are a few of my favorites from what I did capture:
Before visiting Senegal, I wrote my final paper on art in Senegal, both within galleries and street art. Here’s a picture of some of the street art that we drove by everyday on our way back to the hotel. I loved seeing how it was both similar to our graffiti back home, but also how here it’s seen in a better light and is more often used as a legitimate art form.
This picture of King Babacar and I was taken when we all visited an English Club member’s house for lunch. It was so neat to be fully immersed in what a typical afternoon is like for a family in Guinaw Rails. His family was so welcoming and wanted to make it a great experience for me–his sister even gifted me the boubou I’m wearing! They really showed the spirit of teranga (hospitality and respect) that Senegal is known for.
Most of us wore our boubous that we were given or had tailored to our final dinner with the SIT staff. It was sad to know that soon after we would be leaving all of the kind and wonderful people we had met in Senegal. At the same time, I know it was such an amazing trip for all of us and everything we’ve learned and experienced will stick with us forever.
